My Babies

These photos were taken at the Chickering Family weekend 2 weeks ago. Sometimes it still amazes me that I have 2 children - and I count my blessings to know how perfect they are! Miles continues to be a fabulous older brother, and Amelia is just determined to keep up with him.

All healthy!

On Monday we had Amelia's 6 month visit to the doctor and all is good. She is still on track for her growth and her motor skills are way advanced. The doctor was surprised at how well she could sit up and that she is "crawling". She actually was scooting around so well on the exam table that she kept trying to move towards the "baby that looked like her" and creamed her head into the mirror about 3 different times... you'd think that Tim and I would have learned!

While she isn't sleeping through the night yet (and it's killing me), the doctor mentioned that she probably could and to try to let her cry it out a bit. Last night, for her dream feed, Tim gave her 5 ounces at 11 instead of 3 ounces at 10 and she slept until 5:45.... I can handle that. We'll see how things go as we try to get the formula right on how much food she needs and when - but Mommy needs some more sleep.

Her stats:
weight: 15 lbs even, about 25th percentile
Height: 25 1/4 inches, about 25th percentile
Head: 42.5 cms, about 50th percentile

Miles was also on the smaller size at his 6 month visit - nursed kids tend to be.

6 months!

Holy cow. Little Amelia is 6 months old today. I can't believe our little girl has gotten so big so fast. We have her 6 month check up next week so we'll have more to report then. But for now, I am just amazed to report that I am just awed by her determination. She has such grit and has had some seriously early milestones.... like starting to crawl. While she is still in the "army crawl" phase, she actually celebrated her 1/2 birthday by shocking her father and I as she made her way to get Miles' toys.

She is also getting up on her elbows and rocking back and forth. I am totally amazed by this milestone. Miles was on the earlier side for crawling, and that was 7 1/2 months. I kept thinking that she was still another month or so off from figuring it out - boy was I wrong.

So, I guess Tim and I just need to figure out how to manage 2 mobile babies! Happy Half Birthday little girl!!!!!

Sumersaults...

Miles has learned to do sumersaults! This isn't something he learned at home. He tried doing it a while ago and he couldn't quite get it, but now he seems to have it down... but not always. His first one is the best, and then seems to show his downward decline as he moves to "not quite"...

Constantly Surprised

Miles has a great memory and it always makes my jaw drop when he makes connections that I don't think he should be able to.

Last night at dinner we were talking about going up to Soda Springs and all the people he would see. I mentioned that he would see his beloved Margo, and he replied, "Margo? and Jack?" We haven't seen them in 6 weeks and it shocked me that he knew that where Margo is, so is her brother.

Last weekend we were walking into Burlingame and Miles was on Tim's shoulders. Out of the blue, Miles asks "Where'd Sean and Meteorite go?" Clearly his little brain is always working and it is wonderful that he now has enough language to let us in on it!

Arg - part deux...

Daddy got carried away with the washable crayola markers.

Certainly a much more "mature" version of the original.

Miles from the future, if you're reading this, blame your Dad.

Every way but forward

Amelia has become very "mobile" in that she can roll, turn, scoot and move every way but forward. Occasionally she'll lift her butt off the floor high enough and push with her legs so that she scoots along on her face, but mostly she just turns on her center access and roll over. She's gotten mobile enough to have explored her entire crib and decide that she likes sleeping in the corner closest to the door. She is also mobile enough now that it is tricky to leave her alone in the play room for too long before she gets lodged under the couch or something. She seems anxious to get moving, but we're enjoying what is likely the last couple of months of her not being able to really go anywhere. That said, look at her go!

...my favorite part is the flop at the end...

Mmmmm......

Amelia is starting to find her consonants. Like always, it starts with her Mmmmmmms. I've heard her humming at night when she wakes up, and like any new skill, she is desperate to master it.

Day in Half Moon Bay

A couple of weekends ago, we decided to head down to Half Moon Bay to try out a new breakfast place and look at the boats. The breakfast wasn't so great and the weather was cloudy, so we decided to cut out and head home. Amelia slept through the better part of the ride over, breakfast, and our stroll, so we decided to stop on the way home to feed her while Miles got to ride the ponies at Lemos' Farm. Miles totally loves his horses and he went out of his way to pick out the biggest one to ride on... We called it "Lightening".

Once we got home and had lunch, everyone headed off to bed. Miles was a little disruptive (to say the least) for letting Amelia nap, so Tim threw him in with me. After many games, stern warnings, and the threat of the pack 'n play, Miles finally fell asleep and we all got a good hour nap in. I loved sleeping with my little boy and the nap could have been my highlight of the weekend.

Look Alike?

Is it me? Or do my kids look alike?

Miles 7 months old

Sweet Baby Girl!

Little Amelia, you are growing up so fast! Sometimes it feels like yesterday that I was pregnant with you - but I love the time we have had together. This weekend, you're hair got long enough to put up in 3 little pig tails, I think I fell in love with you even more. You have the most beautiful blue eyes and I can stare into them for hours. You started being able to stand up holding onto our fingers or your push cart, it feels like you are too young for that, but you are strong and ambitious and I admire you. You are such an amazing little person and I can't wait to get to know you better.
