Horse Riding at Lemos Farm

One some what drizzly day, Lina, Miles and I went to Halfmoon Bay for breakfast. On the way back, we stopped by Lemos Farm to visit with the horses. We were there about 5mins. after they opened and were the only ones there up until we left about an hour later.

Miles saw some chickens, ducks and goats again before making his way down to the pony rides.

It was a first for Daddy to get to walk the pony.
Both Miles and I were so impressed with how well we did.

The Mama and Papa Visit

Two weeks ago or so (sorry for posting this out of order) Miles, Lina and Dad went to Reno, NV to visit with Grandma and Grandpa Reeth (mama and papa). This is the same trip as the "Road Trip" post. We had a wonderful time. Miles was able to play, play, play and strengthen his bond with his grandfolks after a few months of them being on the east coast.

Grandma and Grandpa bought a stroller for when Miles and soon to be here Twosday visit. The buying decision came as soon as Miles got inside for a test ride. Its a Jeep stroller with a removable steering wheel which snaps on the eating tray in straight in front of Miles. Miles was grinning ear to ear tapping the horn and saying "beep, beep" as we spun him up and down an isle. It was clear he'd enjoy long sidewalk trips with his family.

Miles has also taken a notable fancy for his two cousins "Tody and Tiley" after having spent an afternoon with them the weekend before. Maybe three dozen times Miles would walk up to the photos of Cody and Kiley and point to each and calling them by name. It was great to witness his fondness for them and memory of the relation.

Miles is growing up SO fast. Slowly bubbas, slowly - no rush from an of us to get there now.

Happy Thanksgiving

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. As is the custom of giving thanks during dinner, we wanted to share with those closest to us what we are thankful for.

First, we are most thankful to have those who are closest to us; our family and friends. We are thankful for our health. Thankful for our children Miles and Twosday (to be named :). We're thankful for our awareness of how fast time flies and sensitivity to delight in small moments as much as large ones. We're thankful for peace of mind and spirit. Thankful for life and thankful for spell check.

Love you all very much. Thank you for your love and support.

Words I want to remember

It's been a while. Things have been crazy and I am finding myself having a hard time balancing work, motherhood, general housekeeping, and blogging. Blogging has lost.

In the meantime, here are some of the moments I always want to remember.

"Hot": Last time Grandma and Grandpa Reeth were here, Miles had a hard time settling down for a nap. They finally gave him the pass, but put him in his stroller to walk to the grocery store where he promptly fell asleep. When I got home, the 4 of them were coming through the door with a super-bundled up and totally sacked out Miles. We scooped him out of the stroller and he awoke in my arms. He slowly lifted his head off my shoulder, and in a super groggy voice muttered "hot". He cleared his throat and said it again "hot!". Needless to say, we quickly pulled him out of his outwear...

"Heavy": Grandma and Grandpa Reeth figured out that when Miles says "heavy" ("hebby" really) he doesn't mean "this weighs a lot" and actually means "this is hard!". He says it carrying things, climbing up on things, and trying to do something new. I love that he took a word and based on how it was introduced to him, made it mean something totally reasonable...if not a little wrong.

"Mouse": We put things on Miles' changing table within arms reach so that when he wakes up in the morning, he has a book or a toy that he can play with while we shower and get ready in the morning. One night, Tim put a squeaky toy mouse up on the changing table, and by the time we came to get him out of his crib in the morning, Miles was at the far end of the crib, glued to the corner. The mouse was in the middle of the crib, Miles pointed to it, called it by name, and would not go near it. Apparently it was either too squeaky or didn't like the texture - but Miles did not like this thing...

It is a joy that this little man is getting a vocabulary. It must be frustrating to not be able to communicate and we are just delighting in this stage where things are just clicking for him.

Road Trip with Dad!

So today is an odd day. Miles, Tim and I all scooted out of the house at 5:45 this morning. Miles was wide awake as he pointed out all the cars, buses, and trains on the way to dropping Mommy off at the Oakland airport. I kissed my boys goodbye then headed off for a day trip to LA. Tim and Miles continued on in the truck (complete with Wiggles videos) up to Reno to see Grandma and Grandpa who are newly back from the East Coast.

Miles fell asleep mid-Wiggles up over the summit, and Tim sent me this photo in email. It’s a little sad to not be on the roadtrip with my boys, but I will fly from LA to Reno this afternoon and meet them after dinner. I am sure by now, they are all in a giggle with the 3 generations, and I can't wait to meet them.

...and POP!

So it seems as if my belly has arrived!!! Just this week, I have gone from awkwardly heavy up front to distinctly pregnant. Twosday is doing well in the last weeks of her second trimester. She is getting big enough to be able to distract me from any activity I am doing when she kicks, but I am still doing well, with not too much weight gain and no back troubles.

I am going in for my gestational diabetes test tomorrow and then have results read next week. After that, I start the every other week doctor appointment, which marks closing in on the end. I can't believe how quickly this pregnancy is going and hope it will continue to go smoothly for the remaining 3.5 months.

In Awe

I am just so amazed at how quickly our little boy is changing.

Language: He is starting to come out with things at an amazing rate. Just this weekend, he said "mornine" (for morning) to us on on Sunday while we were all snuggling in our PJs in bed. This is the first time he said it, and clearly understood when to say it. He perked up noticably when we told him we were going to go see "Cody and Kylie" on Sunday - and by the time we left, he was calling them by name, just "Tody and Tylie". We are also now at a point where we are starting to introduce "use your words". He was fussing in his stroller yesterday and we told him to "use his words" at which point he just said "out". We asked him to say "please" which he did immediately, and then he happily completed the walk on Dad's shoulders. Even with limited language, he is learning that transitioning to words is more effective than fussing and crying.

Coordination: He is starting to progress in leaps and bounds. Was it 2 weeks ago he climbed him first baby slide? On Sunday at the park, he went up 2 big kids slides - about 10 feet off the ground - without help. Just put his head down and did it. Not to mention all the running, kicking, throwing etc.

Potty training: so needless to say this was an unexpected event which may not happen again for months (or years). But he seemed to go so smoothly along with the flow that Tim and I were just trying to keep up. Literally. I offered it up to him on a lark, but there he went trotting off to the bathroom. Tim looked at me and said "what do we do if he goes?" "I have no idea - put it in the toilet?" I was more worried about what we would do if he didn't go... put him in a new diaper and then change it again? We were both totally in shock when it happened, but couldn't celebrate enough with him. I think he was well pleased with himself, but we were totally blown away. This isn't something we are going to force, but needless to say, we will encourage it - and I will start up on my reading!!

It's truly amazing how quickly these months are passing and how rapidly he is changing. I am just so proud of my little man.

Poopy Potty

Around 3 months ago Lina bought a potty for Miles. We put it in the downstairs bathroom next to the "Mommy and Daddy Potty".

Each night at bath time we'd talk about the potty, show it to Miles, he'd sometimes sit on it, maybe clothed, mostly not. Our goal was to get him comfortable with the potty, educate him on what it was and when it was used. When we changed Miles we'd talk about the potty and that Mommy and Daddy go poopy and pee-pee in our potty.

Well...this evening Miles was standing in the living room and started to struggle with a poopy. Lina asked him, in a very encouraging tone, if he wanted to go poopy on the potty. Miles looked at us then proceeded to walk (quickly) to the bathroom. I went in with him and stripped him out of his diaper. We gave him a little book to flip through while he sat (to keep his attention off getting up and leaving). He sat, stood, sat, stood, sat and then crapped. YAY Miles! We cheered. He stood up and proceeded to pee on the floor. YAY! you pooped in the potty we cheered again. We continued to congratulate and praise him for 20 mins. He got a treat, many hugs and high-fives.

Sure - we're a long way from being potty trained; but we think this is a big first step. He is comfortable with the potty, knows what it is and what its used for. Lets see if he takes to it.

Happy Halloween!

The Reeths hope everyone had a spooky fun and safe Halloween.

This year we put a little more energy into the outside decoration - our thinking is to add one or two things a year until it becomes an issue with storage or setup/take down. Last year we hung purple lights on our front-yard tree, put out a few plastic pumpkins and hung a number of cob webs in the front yard tree and on the brick facade of our porch. This year we tripled the number of lights, tripled the amount of cob webs, added two more pumpkins, a strobe light, purple bulbs in all outdoor lights/lamps, made a ghost from a sheet, a monster thing in the bushes, a fog machine and a hidden portable ipod player looping Halloween noises. It actually turned out great - so much so that we would get compliments at the door by trick or treaters and even had an entire (at least 12 people) Indian family take family pictures in front of our purple lit tree (weird we know).

Miles had three costumes this year. We posted about the garden gnome and organ grinder monkey. For Halloween night, Miles went as a cowboy. Aunt Fran gave Lina a cowboy shirt for her baby shower - and Miles is just now big enough to wear it. Its a killer shirt; the envy of his father. We all went out around 6PM to four houses (our immediate neighbors) to give Miles a little intro into the holiday. He was great! He'd walk-up, ring the door bell (if he could reach) then, after the door was answered, would take his one or two candies, drop them in his Elmo pale and say "Bye".

Kevin and Jeannie (Neenee) gave us a horse head on a stick (sure it has a name) which Miles happily walked with to every house. The cowboy hat, well - it wasn't on but for 2 seconds before landing in a puddle at the end of our driveway.

It was a great evening.

Friday Miles had a Halloween party at his Day Care. The kids, both current and recent grads, all dressed up. It was fun to watch all the kids play together and was a great opportunity to meet some parents.
