Hours at the Water Table

Grandma and Grandpa gave Miles a water table for his birthday and Saturday was the first GORGEOUS California day where we could spend time outdoors, getting wet, and enjoying the afternoon. Dad spent some time and the garden while Miles and I hung out in the back yard - playing. He invented a game where he put his ducky inside the cup and bounced it out - this went on a very long time. We truly spent about an hour at the table - which for a 1 year old is pretty significant span of attention! By the end of it, both he and I were soaked through, having loved every minute of it.

Miles with Miles

Miles has discovered that his photos runs on repeat on Daddy's computer. He literally will go over to the computer, point, and watch as the slide show of his "childhood" streams by.

New Dining Room Table!!

Dado and Beebles gave us a wonderful gift of their old dining room table set. It is wonderful to know that Miles is going to grow up eating at the same table I grew up with. The dining room is coming together beautifully, now we just need a rug!

Random Bath Night

I am not sure how or why this all happened, but Miles was being super cute one bath night and we caught the following photos.

Visit from Dado and Beebles!

My parents came out to CA for Miles and Dado's birthdays - 8 days apart. Dado and Beebles were fundamental in prepping for the party. Grandma, Grandpa, and Great Grandma Betty were also around to help with all the prep! Grandma Betty was crucial to getting the house perfectly decorated and all of us in order!

My folks then disappeared for the week as they road-tripped throughout Southern California and returned Friday night for the weekend and Dado's birthday. We had a much quieter weekend, as compared to the one before, and settled into a routine of naps, walks, the park, and play time in the playroom. Miles warmed right up to Dado and Beebles and loved hanging out with them. It was really nice for me to see my parents with Miles. As he is growing into a little person, it is great to have him get to know all his family - even if they live on the wrong coast!!

Miles' Birthday Highlights

As compared to the other 1 year olds, Miles' birthday was pretty low key. All the mothers in my mommies groups planned elaborate birthday parties that all included formal invitations, rented gyms, 100s in Hillsborough etc. We pulled together a little last minute something for our special boy that included about 30 at our house for cocktails and food. Lots of friends and family came out to play with us. Karen, Miles' nanny, was the hit of the party face painting all the kids, and making balloon animals / toys. At one point, Miles' cousins, Cody and Kylie were running in circles simply delighting in their balloon sword and wings. Miles took most of the activity in stride, though was a little weary of all the activity. He spent the bulk of the afternoon in one of his grandmothers' arms or ours. But he did love all the attention!!! We got him a little leprechaun hat that we thought we would put on him to snap a photo before he ripped it off - but our little actor kept it on all night!! I think he loved making people laugh and smile - what a wonderful little boy!!

Days gone by....

So, March has basically come and gone - and we haven't posted anything! Tim is working his butt off on his company, and I am preparing for a product launch 3 years in the making. meanwhile, we have a perfect little 1 year old running around keeping us busy in any "spare" time that we have. What is true, however frantic, is that we are unbelievably happy and feeling wonderfully blessed. So, to make a long story short, here is a series of postings on our happenings!

First Ouchy

Miles had an unexpected date with gravel and gravity. Miles was playing in the train facade at the neighborhood playground. He was doing great transitioning from one bench to the other, when Lina and I took our eyes off him for a second to point out a passing doggy. When we looked back Miles as was on his belly. We picked him up to find him with a mouth full of sand (we are still unsure where it ALL came from) and an "ouchy" on his head. As tough as Reeth and Chickerings are, Miles was unable to hold back his tears. Though he did fight through the pain and shock to settle down a few moments after we scooped him up. I think he was more upset at the sand and missing the doggy than bumping his head.

As a family friend, Dick Livermore, says "Dirt hurt." Of all the kinds of hurts a child can experience, this is the best kind, because it the kind that goes away.

Miles is all healed up and ready for his BIG BOY birthday this Friday and the Saturday celebration to follow.

Argh Matey

This morning Karen, our nanny, busted out her face painting kit. We had talked the previous day about doing some face painting for the kids at Miles' birthday party; so she showed up today with her stuff.

In no time Karen had applied paint (almost) all over Miles. He had a star on his cheek, a clover on the back of his hand, a fish on his forearm and then came the pirate face application. Miles was whooting in the mirror, getting a real kick out of his face details.

Prince Charming

This is something I definitely want to remember.

Miles invented his own game. He figured this out with Tim early one morning in the playroom when Tim closed his eyes as Miles played - it wasn't good enough for Miles who woke him up with kisses. The game has continued and extends to me, grandma, and grandpa once, though not for lack of trying. Miles has always been friendly and affectionate, and it is wonderful that he so freely shows it.

Eyelashes

Miles has discovered eyelashes. Not his own, ours.

Yesterday I was lying on the couch while he was cruising around the couch and coffee table. He came over to me for kisses, but stopped and started reaching for my eye. It looked like he wanted to poke it out, but he stopped and pinched and pulled my lashes. He then did it again, again, again....

It's amazing what is entertaining for a 11.5 month old.

R.I.P. 6 ozs of Blackberries

It's the Mexican berry season and they are super yummy. We went to the store yesterday and picked up his weekly fruit. At dinner, I gave him a couple of blackberries and he went crazy. Literally. Apey. As fast as I could get them on his tray, they were smeared all over his face and in his mouth. He went though the ENTIRE 6 ounce container in under 10 minutes. As much as he loves blueberries, blackberries are the one top.
