6 weeks!

We've been getting into a groove with our sweet girl, and as such, we've had some time to pull out the camera. Amelia is growing very well and we are making up for a previous lack of photo sessions with our second. Here are a few of the most recent event.

Amelia is actually a pretty easy little lady. Though she isn't sleeping through the night yet, she is very portable and is pretty predictable. She tends to sleep very well in the mornings and early afternoon. At about 4, she wakes up and fusses until bed which is between 8 and 9. She gets several hours of sleep per day, and does well at night, but still needs to feed 3 times a night. We're experimenting with trying to find a good routine between which feeds I take and which Tim gives her a bottle for, but we haven't found the perfect solution yet. Oh well, there's still time to keep trying!!

Plus, the height of a newborn's fussy period is 6 weeks and then declines for the next 6 weeks. It's nice to know that any fussiness we do have is only going to get easier.

Big Boy!

Miles had his 2 year old appointment last week, and it turns out he is going to be a big boy! Miles is 37 inches tall (95th percentile) weighing 31 1/5 pounds (85th percentile) with the head of a 3 year old. To estimate future height, you double the height at 2 - and if that is the case, Miles will be 6' 2. Though predictions rarely come true, he will still be tall.

The appointment was less than pleasant, however. Apparently Miles remembers having been there in December for his flu shot and he cried the entire time. It was a little difficult to have a decent conversation with the doctor, but we managed through it.

(The photos were from our trip to the zoo the day after Miles' birthday.)

Our Growing Girl

As I mentioned before, Amelia has been on a major growth spurt. By this age, she has already had 2 growth spurts, but she is climbing up and away on her growth.

At birth, she weighed 6 lbs 15 ozs and was 19 inches long.

At 1 week, she weighed 6 lbs 10 ozs (~12th percentile) and was 20 inches long (~50th percentile)

At 2 weeks, she weighed 7 lbs 1 ozs (~25th percentile) and was 20 1/4 inches (~50th percentile)

At 1 month, she weighed 8 lbs 7 ozs (~50th percentile) and was 21 inches (50th percentile)

Her height is right on track, but she is gaining tons of weight. As a nursing mom, it is really encouraging to know she is gaining the much needed weight. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the quicker she gains weight, the quicker she will get to longer and longer sleeping stretches!!!

Finishing off the birthday

After the second round of presents (Miles appeared scared of Chuck the Talking Truck), we settled into a nice dinner and the required cake. Miles was mildly interested in the eating the cake, but LOVED pulling off the sprinkles. Thank you for the cake, Mamma!!!

Miles New Shades

Understandable, Miles hates the sun in his light blue eyes. As spring is in the midst of exploding out in California, we picked him up a pair of shades.... just like Daddy.

Happy Birthday Miles!!!!

Miles is 2 today, and if you don't watch out, he will tell you so. We've been singing to him all day, and if you ask him what day it is, he will tell you it's "Miles Birday".

Mamma and Pop-pop are down from Reno for the occasion, and with them is Miles' Great Grandma Betty. They came over first thing this morning, and Miles was given some presents. He got a t-ball stand from Mamma and Pop-pop (which he loves), cars and a Mickey Mouse Playhouse from Grandma Betty (another big hit), a bathing suit (which he could give or take), and a big boy wagon from Mom and Dad. After the unveiling, we put him in the wagon and took him downtown for breakfast and to the park with his new sand toys. After the park, we came home, played in the backyard, and settled into our naps.

Right now, Miles is out with Mamma and Pop-pop getting the final bits for dinner and his cake. Amelia is in Grandma Betty's arms, and all is quiet. Before dinner tonight, we will have more presents, a meal together and cake. I imagine we will all collapse tonight after dinner, not the least of who will be Mamma - she has been all over town and the house pouring affection on both her grandkids. We truly look forward to winter when they are close by and the kids get to see them.

...and we're back!

We're starting to emerge from the haze of the early infant days. A quick recap of how things are going over the last month! (I can't believe Amelia is a month old already!!)

2 trips to the ER!! In very exciting, and inconvenient moments late at night, we've taken 2 trips to the Emergency Room. In the first week or so, I passed a blood clot with extra bleeding - the good news was that everything was fine and we were sent back home. Last week, Amelia choked while nursing. In a very scary moment, she turned blue. We did what we were supposed to do, and helped her clear it all up. After she was settled and fine, we called the pediatrician to make sure we had done everything right, but they sent us to the ER anyway. While there, they monitored her oxygen level which seemed a little low. So after an x-ray gave us the "all clear", we were sent along on our way with everything all right. Why is it that emergencies always happen in the middle of the night?!?

New sleeping arrangements! After our little choking incident, we've been totally freaked out to put Amelia to sleep on her back after nursing. The pediatrician mentioned that we should "play with her sleeping angle" so we've been putting her to sleep in the swing, not swinging. Since then, she has been sleeping great! For the first time since we brought her home, she is sleeping for more than 1 hour. In fact, last night she slept from 9:30-2:30... which was much needed! I've invested in a little travel sleeping rocker which will keep her at the same angle so we don't have to carry the swing up and down stairs. It should arrive today, so we'll see how that goes. But after we got little use of the swing with Miles, we are insanely happy that Amelia LOVES it!!!

Miles still seems in love with his little sister, but is regressing a bit. Miles always wants "Miles turn hold Mila" and we indulge him frequently. He now counts her on his "must kiss" list before bed and gets upset when he can't see her for some reason. On the other hand, his bedtime has gotten a little trickier, which is to be expected. We now spend more time with him than we used to, just giving him extra attention and assurance that he is loved. He is also waking up earlier and earlier, which we are trying to fight, but aren't winning at this point. Oh well, it's a journey and we are on it.

Amelia is growing great and is a relatively easy baby. At her 1 month doctor appointment, she measured in at about 50% on everything, height, weight and head circumference. (More the come later on her growth). Amelia has gone through several growth spurts and is a very active eater, but we are finally getting into something that may resemble a schedule (which is nice!!!). I think on the worst day, I spent about 7 1/2 hours feeding her over a 24 hour period and 15 feeding events. Needless to say it was rough, but now that she is growing so big, she is stretching out to 2.5 - 3 hours, except the fussy period between 4 & 8 at night.

Speaking of schedules, she is waking up now, and I have work to do. More to come later...
