Visit from daddo!

Daddo and his partner were out in CA for the weekend and came by for dinner. Out Little Bug was a bit cranky, but couldn't have been happier in her grandfather's arms. Daddo was a little tired and hurting, but he danced away with our little girl and she calmed down and loved the cuddles!

Make up man

While I was putting on my make up the other day, miles took to the activity. He quietly sat next to me, which is big for him, and brushed on his own eye shadow... Just not on his eyes.

Holy Cow - 7 months!

Life has been insane, and I can't say I have been all that graceful at handling life as a working mom with 2 kids. However, everyone is happy and healthy even though Mom is exhausted!

Amelia is 7 months old today, and here are some notes on her development:
  • Teething. Awesome. The first one came out of no where 2 weeks ago, but lately she has been snotty, cranky, and waking up at all hours.
  • Eating. She eats everything. She seems constantly hungry and is always thrilled to have more food. We got her her own high chair so she now sits at the table and not on the table - very Exciting! I think she loves being in her own chair, and when she is done eating, she is mostly content sitting in her chair and chewing on a teething biscuit or frozen fruit until the rest of us are done with dinner.
  • Moving. Amelia motors everywhere, though still in the army crawl. She often gets up on her hands and knees and can sometimes scoot both her legs forward at once, but she hasn't figured out the real crawl, though I imagine it is coming soon.
  • Communicating. Though she hasn't started with many of her consonants, she engages with her squeaks and her grunts. She is ahead of the curve physically so I am not concerned that she might be a week or 2 behind the curve verbally.
  • Sleeping. Still not through the night, especially while teething. She seems fine with it, but I am pretty cranky. :)
  • Siblings. Miles adores her and she adores him. Lately the two have become quite chatty at night with each other and part of their routine involves entertaining one another before the drift off. It is literally my favorite time of night when we've put them to bed and listen to them build their relationship.
More to come soon, she is an amazing little love and we can hardly imagine life without her.

My Babies

These photos were taken at the Chickering Family weekend 2 weeks ago. Sometimes it still amazes me that I have 2 children - and I count my blessings to know how perfect they are! Miles continues to be a fabulous older brother, and Amelia is just determined to keep up with him.

All healthy!

On Monday we had Amelia's 6 month visit to the doctor and all is good. She is still on track for her growth and her motor skills are way advanced. The doctor was surprised at how well she could sit up and that she is "crawling". She actually was scooting around so well on the exam table that she kept trying to move towards the "baby that looked like her" and creamed her head into the mirror about 3 different times... you'd think that Tim and I would have learned!

While she isn't sleeping through the night yet (and it's killing me), the doctor mentioned that she probably could and to try to let her cry it out a bit. Last night, for her dream feed, Tim gave her 5 ounces at 11 instead of 3 ounces at 10 and she slept until 5:45.... I can handle that. We'll see how things go as we try to get the formula right on how much food she needs and when - but Mommy needs some more sleep.

Her stats:
weight: 15 lbs even, about 25th percentile
Height: 25 1/4 inches, about 25th percentile
Head: 42.5 cms, about 50th percentile

Miles was also on the smaller size at his 6 month visit - nursed kids tend to be.

6 months!

Holy cow. Little Amelia is 6 months old today. I can't believe our little girl has gotten so big so fast. We have her 6 month check up next week so we'll have more to report then. But for now, I am just amazed to report that I am just awed by her determination. She has such grit and has had some seriously early milestones.... like starting to crawl. While she is still in the "army crawl" phase, she actually celebrated her 1/2 birthday by shocking her father and I as she made her way to get Miles' toys.

She is also getting up on her elbows and rocking back and forth. I am totally amazed by this milestone. Miles was on the earlier side for crawling, and that was 7 1/2 months. I kept thinking that she was still another month or so off from figuring it out - boy was I wrong.

So, I guess Tim and I just need to figure out how to manage 2 mobile babies! Happy Half Birthday little girl!!!!!

Sumersaults...

Miles has learned to do sumersaults! This isn't something he learned at home. He tried doing it a while ago and he couldn't quite get it, but now he seems to have it down... but not always. His first one is the best, and then seems to show his downward decline as he moves to "not quite"...
