Words I want to remember

It's been a while. Things have been crazy and I am finding myself having a hard time balancing work, motherhood, general housekeeping, and blogging. Blogging has lost.

In the meantime, here are some of the moments I always want to remember.

"Hot": Last time Grandma and Grandpa Reeth were here, Miles had a hard time settling down for a nap. They finally gave him the pass, but put him in his stroller to walk to the grocery store where he promptly fell asleep. When I got home, the 4 of them were coming through the door with a super-bundled up and totally sacked out Miles. We scooped him out of the stroller and he awoke in my arms. He slowly lifted his head off my shoulder, and in a super groggy voice muttered "hot". He cleared his throat and said it again "hot!". Needless to say, we quickly pulled him out of his outwear...

"Heavy": Grandma and Grandpa Reeth figured out that when Miles says "heavy" ("hebby" really) he doesn't mean "this weighs a lot" and actually means "this is hard!". He says it carrying things, climbing up on things, and trying to do something new. I love that he took a word and based on how it was introduced to him, made it mean something totally reasonable...if not a little wrong.

"Mouse": We put things on Miles' changing table within arms reach so that when he wakes up in the morning, he has a book or a toy that he can play with while we shower and get ready in the morning. One night, Tim put a squeaky toy mouse up on the changing table, and by the time we came to get him out of his crib in the morning, Miles was at the far end of the crib, glued to the corner. The mouse was in the middle of the crib, Miles pointed to it, called it by name, and would not go near it. Apparently it was either too squeaky or didn't like the texture - but Miles did not like this thing...

It is a joy that this little man is getting a vocabulary. It must be frustrating to not be able to communicate and we are just delighting in this stage where things are just clicking for him.
