More Words

Miles has been adding new words to his vocabulary like mad. He's now pretty good at closely mimicking us with new words and has nailed his few favorites. He seems to be struggling with words starting with "G" (sorry Grandma and Grandpa).

We wanted to get him saying as many words as he can on video - problem was Dad kept forgetting the list; resulting in us missing some of our favorites in the first video. We love how Miles says "Meow" for Cat and "Mooo" for Cow, after hearing us ask him to say "Cat" or "Cow" - in these two instances, he doesn't repeat; rather he understands what we are asking and gives us the word he uses to refer to them.

"Miles"

Well we finally got a "Miles" out of Miles.

So cute!

Nice wigglin...

He's also picked up "Pizza". His only exposure to Pizza so far is a drawing in one of his favorite pamphlets - a sticker type three page booklet from who knows where.

Li'l Miss Drama

Last Friday we had a standard monthly doctor visit for Twosday. After listening to the heart rate, both the mid-wife and the doctor heard a deceleration of her heart rate and decided to send us for further testing. The hospital won't do a non-stress test until 26 weeks so I was sent off to the Ultrasound office. After waiting for 75 stressful minutes in the waiting room, we got a thorough exam where everything turned out fine. Twosday is doing well, growing as expected, and her heart is fine. The deceleration may have just been her moving away from the monitor and blending in my heart rate, but whatever it was, it wasn't a big deal. Twosday is kicking along well and feel her moving regularly. My next appointment isn't for another 4 weeks, after which we go to every 2 weeks - boy this pregnancy is going quickly!!

Park It Miles

After the Pumpkin patch and after our afternoon naps, Lina, Miles and I went to the playground at the elementary school near home. We found a red ball there which Miles enjoyed throwing and kicking around. Clearly we have a budding soccer pro on our hands (not to say he can't also wrestle).

Miles amazed us when he suddenly decided to walk-UP the slide. Something finally connected with him that he would be able to make it by holding onto the slide sides as he walked up. I attribute his walking up a steep hill with Mom and Dad this weekend to his learning to lean forward going up hill.

Miles also shows off throwing the ball to Daddy - what we could not get him to do was stand still long enough to try and catch it. He certainly has an arm(s) doesn't he.

I love how he hides his small ball behind his back.

Pumkin Patch

Today we went to the Lemos Farm for the annual pumkin patch. Again, Miles' Uncle Kevin, Aunt Jeannie and Cousins Cody and Kylie met us there. It was another great trip and was fun, fun, fun for all of us.

Two weeks ago, or so, Miles sat on his first REAL horse. Today Miles got to ride on a pony ALL BY HIMSELF. We were a bit (VERY) nervous as Miles is known for trying to climb out of any and everything. We thought he might get anxious or upset and try to get off while in motion. Thankfully he did not. Was was a bit nervous (chewing on his thumb a bit) for the first few times around, but by the third rotation or so, he was perfectly at ease.

Cody and Kylie were wonderful (of course) with Miles again. They were his little chaperons, keeping him close and safe. They played in the cutout cowboys (again this year) and we got some great cousin photos sitting with the pumpkins.

(Un)Happy Halloween

Well the ghostly season is upon us! Last week, Lina and I found ourselves at Didoms, a party supply store in San Mateo, looking through Halloween costumes. We figured if something jumped out at us, we'd get it...but if not, no worries there was plenty of time to shop. Wouldn't you know - two costumes grabbed our attention. One is an Organ Grinder's Monkey outfit and the other a Garden Gnome. Not able to decide and having the $13 or so each cost, we bought both. A few days later it was time to try on at least part of one of the costumes. At first Miles wasn't feeling the monkey hood (its hit or miss with Miles as to whether or not he'll wear a hat), but after a few minutes and coaxing by letting him watch himself in the digital camera, he seemed to relax about it and have fun.

Saturday was the Burlingame Mother's Club annual Halloween parade. Everyone meets in the park near downtown with kids in costumes (some parents too) and coffee in hand. There are refreshments, some food and little hay bales used for taking photos. For the parade Lina and I decided to try the Garden Gnome costume. It was clear that Miles did not like the hat or the beard. We were lucky to get him to leave it be and not cry long enough to get a few shots in.

After the parade and just before taking him out of the costume, we tried again at pictures in our yard. Again, T minus 5 seconds until melt-down.

Pretty sure he doesn't like it.

Giving it the Chickereeth try!

VERY sure he doesn't like it.

Weekend Recap

While we didn't particularly whoop it up on this cold and foggy weekend, we did introduce Miles to a number of new things - some of which he LOVED, others he is biding his time before he makes a decision.

On Saturday morning, we took Caltrain down to the San Carlos Art and Wine festival. Miles loved the train ride down and we had a nice time strolling around through the town, and climbing up and down on the curbs. The real excitement came with the San Carlos Fire and Police departments. They showed up in wonderful form allowing the kids to sit in the fire truck and on their police motorcycle. They even branded him with their temporary tatoo.

As mentioned above, Miles LOVED the train. What an easy way to entertain a child. The train was about 15 minutes each way, and nice to not have to deal with traffic and parking!

On Sunday morning, we went to Half Moon Bay for breakfast, just to do something different. Breakfast was great - turns out Miles is nuts for honey wheat pancakes. We then drove up the coast a bit to a cute little fishing community. While we didn't buy any of the fresh cod that was being sold directly off of the fishing boats, Miles did enjoy pointing out the boats and watching the seals.

But it was COLD... so we headed out. On the way back down highway 1, Tim noticed a sign for the Sea Horse Ranch, and about 20 saddled horses - so we pulled over. Miles got the chance to sit on top of his very own horse. While he didn't love the experience - horses are big animals, unless, of course, you are 34 inches tall at which point they are HUGE - he did take it in with a cautious level of curiosity.

The funny part was the arrival home. Uncle Kevin and Aunt Jeannie handed down a horse head on a stick, which Miles has taken a new found liking to...
